HAJO [KAMRUP]: AN ANCIENT PILIGRIMAGE IN ASSAM FOR MUSLIM HINDUS AND BHUDDIST

Home to shrines dedicated to hindu deities and buddha and muslim saint. Hajo is an ancient place for people of multiple faith. the kuch ahom and mughals dynasty ruled the place by turn. as a result of which it's boundaries and names underwent a change each time.Vishnupushkara sujabad and manikutagram are some of the name that have been used for Hajo. from 15th century onwards the place was known as kalika purana. The epic Rigveda describes about the Varna[Caste] system in india.in Rigveda only two casts are mentioned Arya and Das. White coloured reffered to arya and black coloured reffered to das means slave. later it signifies four varnas - Brahman, kshatriya, Vaishya, and Sudhras. TEA before the 1920s it was abrew enjoyed only by anglicized indians although the singpho tribe which lives in the areas between Assam and Arunachal pradesh had been growing tea and steeping its leaves to procure a herbal drinkfor generations it was only when the British East India company annexed vast  tracts of lands in the region in the 19th century did tea began to be grown for commercial purpose. large scale production of tea began in the 1820s in an attempt to counter the chinise monopoly on the trade the british also introduced chinise cultivation and planting techniques it is interesting to grow the chinise tea plant in india was met with failure. Charles Alexander Bruce a subject of the east india company was the first to successfully grow the indigenous tea plant. the company subsequently lured other   Britons  to india by offering them large expanses of land to grow tea for export. MAULANA AHMADULLAH SHAH:[ A SOLDIER OF 1857 REVOLT]

Maulana Ahmadullah shah was one of the many maulana who played an important part in 1857 revolt. Educated in Hyderabad. he become a preacher when young. in 1856 he was seen moving village to village preaching jehad against the British and urging people for rebel. he moved in a palanquin with drumbeaters in front and the followers at the rear. he was therefore popularly called Danka shah- the maulana with the drum. AYA SOFIA MASJID: RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN

Much of the AYA SOFIA Masjid was completed in the 6th century (primarily from 532–537), during the reign of Byzantine Emperor JUSTININE I . The original church to occupy the site (called the Megale Ekklesia) was commissioned by Emperor CONSTANTINE I  in 325, razed during a riot in 404, later rebuilt, and destroyed once again in 532 before Justinian commissioned the building that exists today. Since then, mosaics were added throughout the Byzantine period, structural modifications were made in both the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, and features important to the Islamic architectural tradition were constructed during Ottoman ownership of the structure. The structure originally erected on the site of the AYA SOFIA was a Christian cathedral called the Megale Ekklesia, which was commissioned by the first Christian Roman emperor,CONSTANTINE I  . AZAN FAKIR [ HAZRAT SHAH SYEED MOINUDDIN ]

Azan faqir describes himself to be foreigner it is said that he hailed from Baghdad and was a disciple of Khawaza Nizamuddin aulia. he was given the epithet "pir" he was called "AZAN" as he invoked people for namaz azan phir was the most prominent composer of assamese zikir. He married an  Ahom women of high family and settled at Gargaon near  Sivsagar town.according to sayed abdul malik he flourished in the middle of the 17th century from the  reign of Burha raja pratap till the reign of Gadhadar singha. originally he spoke arabic but he learnt the language of the land mastered it completely he become very popular among all sections of the people incourse of time his popularity incurred jealously of  a muslim official rupai dadhra. who misrepresented his teaching to the Ahom king and with the kings approval he got the eyeballs of the saint plucked out. later on however the king realized the greatness of the saint and established him at saraguri chapari. near sivsag...

HORSE TRADING AND POLITICS [The story of Aya ram and gaya ram]

The expression aya ram gaya ram become popular in the political vocabulary in india to describe the practice of frequently floor crossing by legislators.the expression originated in an amazing feat of floor crossing achieved by Gaya Lal. an MLA in Haryana. in 1967. He changed his party thrice in a fortnight from congress to united front and back to congress and then within nine hours united front again.it is said that when gaya lal decleared his intention to quit the united front and join the congress  the congress leader Rao Birendra Singh brought him to chandigarh press and declared "Gaya Ram was now Aya Ram".

1857 REVOLT AND KARIMGANJ, ASSAM [MALEGARH, LATU]

Malegarh burial site is a burial ground of the bodies of 26 soldiers of the 34th native infantry of chittagong who were among the 300 plus soldiers who had revolted against the  british and made away with arms ammunition and cash from chittagong on 18 november 1857. The british track down the rebel group which also included women and children and caught up with them at Malegarh with the rebels on the move and the Sylhet light infantry chasing them. The british commandent Major Byng was the first officer hit by the rebels and his remains are also interred at this very spot. five soldiers of sylhet light infantry were killed along with 26 rebels in the battle on Dec 18 1857 and though the body count was higher for the rebels they were successful in repulsing the British.

THE TIGER GURU [RANTHAMBORE, RAJASTHAN]

Anyone who has  to ranthambore has heard something about the eccentricity. devotion and passions of fateh singh rathore he joined the indian forest service in 1960 and spent many years as the feild director of Ranthambore he was one of the few handpicked by kailash sankhala the then director of project tiger to be a part of first project tiger widely acknowledged as a tiger guru his knowledge of the striped cat was legendary he had an uncanny ability to predict the location of tigers and many witnessed him talk to them.       needless to say his single minded drive to protect the park and its wildlife has not always been popular once infuriated at the bar on grazing cattle with in the protected area villagers ambused fateh sings vehicle beat him terribly and left him for dead he was soon up and about and continued to defend the reserve admist plenty more threats to his life in 1983 fateh singh awarded the international valour award for bravery in the feild.
